Classical App

We are proud to announce that we now have the entire classical catalogues of iconic labels Deutsche Grammophon (DG), Decca, Philips, L’Oiseau Lyre, and Accord.

A survey of Deezer users revealed 92% of you said you would listen to classical more if you had help discovering the best music. So together with DG, Decca and Accord we have developed an app to do just that. Whether you’re a classical buff or you can’t tell your Bach from your Bartók, our app opens up the whole classical universe and makes it easy to explore by composer, era, genre, instrument, interpretation, and even mood.

Axel Dauchez, CEO of Deezer said, “The appetite for classical music is huge. With exciting young artists like Lang Lang and Nicola Benedetti attracting new, younger audiences all over the world, especially in Europe and Asia, the demand for classical on digital services is only going to get stronger.”

“Up until now, classical fans haven’t been able to get the best experience from digital services.  Through this collaboration with DG, Decca and Accord, we have the opportunity to give people access not only to the pieces they already love, but also the chance to discover and explore every interpretation of that piece, at the click of a button – anywhere they like. This app is our first step towards providing a better experience for classical fans.”

Mark Wilkinson, President of Deutsche Grammophon, said, “The Yellow Label’s activity in the digital space can help attract new audiences to the enriching world of classical music, and the DG Deezer app will very quickly become an important part of finding new fans and broader audiences.”

Classical music has had a huge influence on popular music today. A classic which you will probably recognise is Pachelbel’s Canon in D, as It features heavily in pop songs, from Coolio’s “C U When U Get There” and Green Day’s “Basket Case”, to Kylie Minogue’s “I Should Be So Lucky”. Not bad for a piece that was written over 300 years ago and remained more or less forgotten until the late 20th century.
