This week, host of MTV News and ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here…Now!’ Laura Whitmore joins us in the UK and Ireland as our guest editor on #DeezerBy. A host of guest editors join our local experts around the world to take over the reins. Check out Laura’s recommended albums, tracks, and playlists on the dedicated Deezer By…
app. We asked Laura to write a blog post on how she finds the music she loves:
I’ve always found new music through friends; we just talk about music and new music in particular. I realise I’m very lucky with the job I have, because at MTV we get to hear new bands a good
bit before other people do. One of the perks is that I get sent music before it comes out officially, so that’s always going to help. Twitter is another huge source for me in discovering new music – there are always interesting tweets with tips from bloggers, people in Ireland like Nialler9 etc.
I’ve got loads of new music coming at me all the time – my friend Dan (an ex-MTV colleague of mine) sends around an email with some of his favourite new music, so that’s often a great source of seeing what’s out there before it gets big!
Whereas I love my live music and bands, some of my friends are really into their pop; others are really into their urban scene more than I am. It’s quite funny that we’re all so different – sometimes when I want to go see something “rocky” live, I find it hard to get my mates on board to come with me!
On the go, my iPhone is my music library – it has everything with me. If I want to change it up now and again, I’ll always go back to my classics. What’s great about having everything in one place on the likes of Deezer, I can go back and check out something I haven’t heard in ages. I was on holiday in Ibiza recently and the radio was playing loads of really random 90’s songs. I heard ‘You Oughta Know’ and immediately remembered how much I loved ‘Jagged Little Pill’, so I was immediately able to add it to my favourites and start my repeated listening of it!
