Simple Minds: Thinking Clearly in HD

Posted by | March 24, 2015 | NEWS

A new remastered version of the Simple Minds classic, Sparkle in the Rain, is now available to stream in HD on Deezer Elite. To celebrate Simple Minds have made Deezer this exclusive playlist of all their own favourite tracks. Charlie Burchill has given us some insight into why some of the tracks hold a special place in their heart.

Today I Died Again

Charlie: I never heard anything like this then, and I’ve still never heard anything like it.

The American

Charlie: In some ways this is one of my favourite tracks, lots of great ideas and Jim finds the context to pull them all together.

Someone Somewhere in Summertime

Charlie: Jim would record us jamming on a ghetto blaster for hours. He plucked out a guitar melody which became the intro to the song and the rest flowed from there.

Promised You a Miracle

Charlie: Our first real hit and this give us a sense we were on our way.

Waterfront

Charlie: This is our Glasgow anthem. I still think it’s so original and recorded so well.

Speed Your Love To Me

Charlie: We made many great memories recording this and it had the wonderful Kirsty MacColl singing backing vocals on it.

Mandela Day

Charlie: We wrote this in an afternoon, it had it’s origins in an earlier song, and we were privileged to be able to write and perform it at the FREE NELSON MANDELA WEMBLEY show. We’re really proud to have a song about the great man.

Big Music

Charlie: This track had been around for a long time but we couldn’t really make it work. After re-visiting it we went loud and proud on it with it becoming the album title track.

Don’t You Forget About me is my all time favorite because it defined my adolescence at the time back in 1985. I was 14 and impressionable and used many songs to express how I felt. Then I’d have to say Alive and Kicking, All the Things She Said, Sanctify Yourself, She’s a River, Waterfront, and Promised You A Miracle follow

The Minds have done so many classics, It is hard to name individual stand out tracks.

Love the music in pleasantly disturbed!

Love all of the songs on this playlist. Moscow Underground really evolved into a great show opener. Wish they were still doing it as the opener this tour!

Waterfront will always be their best song!!!

Many great songs over many years. Really love honest town, big music and kiss and fly

My favorite Simple Minds song is “I Travel.” For me, it is the most exciting and unbridled performance of their career and it sounds like a runaway train getting ready to careen off of the rails as it takes Giorgio Moroder disco energy [the band were influenced by “I Feel Love” in writing this song] and weds it to art rock fearlessly for a hybrid that never fails to thrill. Plus, it name-checks Brian Eno… what more could one ask for?

Between Empires and Dance & Sparkle in the Rain SM were the greatest band in the world. Agree with Monk about I Travel, on a needy day its The Kick Inside of Me. On a nostalgic day its Speed Your Love to Me. Love Song. This Earth That You Walk Upon. The list goes on. If you are not familiawith these tracks – get them now!

Ghostdancing one of the greatest live songs ever !!!!!! and shes a river, i loved this album
