PRS for Music Foundation and Deezer announce Momentum artist, Woman’s Hour as the winners of the latest Momentum Deezer Award and will receive an extra £2,500 of funding

Attaque, Ronika and Roo Panes among 9 more artists receiving Momentum funding of between £5k and £15k for recording, touring and promotion

PRS for Music Foundation, Arts Council England and Deezer, Momentum Music Fund’s official digital music partner, announce Woman’s Hour as the latest winner of the Momentum Deezer Award. The band will receive an extra £2,500 on top of their original Momentum grant.

The band, made up of siblings Fiona and William Burgess, Nicolas Graves and Josh Hunnisett, are recognisable for their enchanting new wave electropop sounds and sultry vocals. Hailing from Cumbria and residing in London, the band have earned a reputation from touring the UK with Metronomy during 2014, and their recent album release ‘Conversations’, which was warmly received by the likes of The Guardian and Daily Telegraph. Their live EP, recorded during live sessions at East London’s Rag Factory, will be available exclusively on Deezer from Monday 27th October.

The three-track live session EP will include In Still We Remain, Her Ghost and Darkest Place all recorded live and available exclusively at Deezer.

Deezer’s editorial team will continue to support Woman’s Hour throughout the year and provide them with a platform for new digital opportunities.

On discovering they had won the award, Woman’s Hour’s lead singer Fiona said:

All artists who receive Momentum funding have the opportunity of winning the £2,500 Momentum Deezer Award on top of their grant. Not only does the additional grant help artists to create exciting new music, it helps make their music accessible to their eager fans. The latest round of artists in with a chance to receive the coveted Momentum Deezer Award join a growing catalogue of exciting new talent, a number of which are already achieving memorable career milestones as a result of their funding. Now, almost a year on since its launch in May 2013, Momentum has supported 34 artists and bands out of nearly 1500 applications.

 

Alongside the Award, the Momentum Deezer app was launched in December 2013, marking a significant development in the promotion of the fund and its supported artists. An advocate for new music talent, the Momentum Deezer app gives a platform to promising artists, making their music available to five million subscribers on and offline.
