30 years ago Dirty Dancing hit our screens as a low budget film that almost didn’t happen. In 2009 the film had officially earned $214 million dollars worldwide and is still adored by millions of fans around the world (search ‘Dirty Dancing lift at wedding’ and you’re in for a treat). Granted, the film is cheesy, anachronistic (80s perms in the 60s? Come on, guys) and the script is so bad, it’s enough to make you want to gouge your eyes out with sandpaper. And yet, it works. Why exactly?
