Deezer beats Spotify (on its home turf)

Shortly after launching in Sweden with Telco partner Tre, Deezer stakes its claim in the highly competitive Swedish streaming market proving to Spotify that having a home advantage isn’t enough. Deezer came top in a recent  ‘’Best in test” review conducted by highly respected Swedish tech blog, Lajka.se. Deezer beat market leaders Wimp and Sweden’s own Spotify to the coveted top spot.

When the Swedish site Lajka.se, owned and operated by IT giant IDG, placed the five major music streaming services under direct comparison, it was the newcomer Deezer that showed the others who is boss. With 30 million songs and a strong focus on usability and design, Deezer scored higher than its famous opponents which included the likes of Spotify, Google Play and Wimp. The article champions Deezer’s sophisticated design, its availability on different platforms/devices and the varied in-app catalog.

“Spotify has done a fantastic job introducing streaming to the masses, especially in its home country. However, it’s exciting for us to see that Deezer is now rated as a better service in Sweden and, as a result, we’re welcoming more and more Swedish users to Deezer everyday” says Alex Esser, Partnership Manager at Deezer, Sweden.

Deezer was founded in 2007 in France and is now available in over 180 countries with five million paying subscribers. The Swedish population is clearly enjoying the unique recommendation engine and Deezer’s approach to ensuring content is localised.

“We’re committed to offering a streaming service that gives people something extra. For example, we understand that in Sweden we have to focus a little more on electronic music, indie acts and female artists as this is what our users want. Through our extensive team of editors, we’re focussed on taking the time to understand what Swedish music lovers want and it’s good to see it’s paying off here,” continued Esser.

In the Lajka.se test Deezer proudly topped the podium with nine out of ten points. Natives Spotify took second place while Norwegian Wimp came in third position.
