#DeezerDriveIn celebrates ‘National Album Day,’ with 100% of proceeds to Help Musicians
On Wednesday 7th October – for one day only – music lovers can relive gigs by iconic 80s artists like Madonna and Prince
Toyah Willcox will perform 80s chart hit ‘I Want To Be Free’ – LIVE on stage!
Special menu matches 80s food prices for the ultimate throwback
Remember when Billy Ocean sang, “Get outta my dreams, Get into my car!”. The 1988 hitmaker must have known an 80s drive-in revival was coming to London in October. So grab your car keys, because global music streaming service Deezer is hosting a one-off drive-in experience packed with 80s music, food and fancy dress!
The special #DeezerDriveIn is part of National Album Day (NAD), with this year’s focus on the 80s. Now in its third year, NAD and Deezer are hoping to inspire more people to listen to full albums. Hosted in North London, the drive-in will be held three days before NAD, on Wednesday 7th October.
We know the covid-19 outbreak has meant it’s a difficult time for musicians, so 100% of event proceeds will go to Help Musicians. The charity supports musicians with financial hardship, creative development and mental health support.
When you’ve pulled up with your ticket, legendary Toyah Willcox will kick start the show with an energetic LIVE performance of her chart-topping 80s hit ‘I Want To Be Free’. You’ll then get to watch four incredible live recorded performances from 80’s legends on a massive top-of-the-range LED screen. Retro fancy dress is strongly encouraged – we’re talking big hair, shoulder pads and bold colours. And if we’re going back to the 80’s, you’ll also need 80’s menu prices – who doesn’t love snacks for less than a quid?
Here’s our great line-up for the night:
(1988) Madonna, ‘The Virgin Tour’
(1987) Prince, ‘Sign o’ the Times’
(1987) Stevie Nicks, ‘Live at Red Rocks’
(1988) David Bowie, ‘Glass Spider Tour’
Adam Read, Deezer’s Music Editor for the UK & Ireland said, “The 80s was all about extravagance. Fun, catchy tunes that often matched big hair and personalities. We want to relive all the highs with brilliant music from legends like Prince and Stevie Nicks with an unforgettable music experience to support artists during this challenging time. In addition to giving all event profits to Help Musicians, we hope more people will fall in love with 80s music again, streaming albums from such an iconic decade.”
Tickets are on sale now for £15 per car from Drive In London. Important Notice: this event will be operating in accordance with all government Covid-19 required safety measures.
Event information When: #DeezerDriveIn doors will officially open at 6.15pm, with music kicking off from 7pm. Plenty of time to get warmed up before the show starts. Following a successful inaugural year, National Album Day is set to return for its third annual edition on Saturday, 10th October. Organised jointly by record labels body the BPI and ERA (Entertainment Retailers Association), representing the nation’s music retailers and digital/streaming platforms, and with the active participation of AIM (Association of Independent Music), National Album Day has the backing and input of the wider music community.
This year taking the 1980s as its inspiration, the music and artist community will come together with the support of BBC Sounds and partners such as Classic Album Sundays for a series of events and activities in the lead up to 10th October that will celebrate the UK’s love for the album and the craft that goes into making this culturally significant body of work.
